USPHL Elite Players Of The Week: North Region

Games from Oct. 12-18

North Division

Forward: Timmy Luna, Bridgewater Bandits

The ‘04 from Falmouth, Mass., has emerged as “Mr. Playmaker” for the Bandits, setting up five of the Bandits’ nine goals in a big 9-4 victory against Boston Junior Bruins on Oct. 15. Overall, he has eight helpers so far this year in 11 games, and will also keep pushing for goal No. 1.

Defense: Jacob Rieger, Northern Cyclones

Rieger (‘04/Oklahoma City, Okla.) continues to improve as a defensive dynamo for one of the Elite’s best programs, one which went to the National Championship game last year. In a pair of wins last week, he posted a goal and two assists and helped his team shut out Springfield on Oct. 15.

Goaltender: Anthony Lacroix, Islanders Hockey Club

Rieger’s old teammate from the Oklahoma City Oil Kings 18U squad, Lacroix tasted success of his own this past week, making 36 saves for his first USPHL shutout on Oct. 16 against Springfield. In two starts, he is 1-0-0-1 with a 0.96 goals against average and a .966 save percentage.

Mid-Atlantic Division

Forward: Melvin Rosendahl, New York Aviators

Within their first three games of the regular season, the second-year Aviator forward Rosendahl (’02/Sweden) had two goals and two assists against P.A.L. in games of Oct. 14 and 16, with 2-1-3 coming in Game 1 of the weekend.

Defense: Arthur Mervyak, P.A.L. Jr. Islanders

Mervyak (’05/Babylon, N.Y.) scored his first goal of his junior career – which stood as a shorthanded game-winner against the New York Aviators. Mervyak is in his third year with the Jr. Islanders after being part of their USPHL 16U squad the last two seasons.

Goaltender: Dylan Boughen, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights

The Knights’ veteran goalie Boughen (’04/Peterborough, U.K.) had a 29-save shutout against the Jersey Hitmen on Oct. 16. His save percentage is currently .915 and he holds a GAA of 2.66.
